The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), Regulation (EU) 2025/40, was formally adopted on December 19, 2024, entered into force on February 11, 2025, and will generally apply from August 12, 2026.
The PPWR establishes a harmonized framework for packaging requirements across all 27 EU Member States, covering producer responsibility, packaging design, waste prevention, reuse, recyclability, and end-of-life management.
Replacing the existing Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive (PPWD), the PPWR aims to facilitate the free movement of products within the EU, support the transition to a circular economy, and reduce the environmental impact of packaging.
Our Preparation
We are actively preparing for the new PPWR requirements and have taken the following steps:
— Reviewing and optimizing our packaging portfolio to align with applicable sustainability requirements.
— Working closely with suppliers to ensure materials and packaging solutions meet the new regulatory requirements.
— Preparing for future documentation and labeling requirements under the PPWR.
— Adjusting internal processes where necessary to support regulatory compliance and help our customers meet their obligations.
