China’s total foreign trade expanded 15.3% year-on-year to RMB 20.68 trillion (USD 3.05 trillion) in the first five months of 2026, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs on June 9. Exports grew 11.8% to RMB 11.91 trillion, while imports rose 20.5% to RMB 8.77 trillion, signaling strong domestic demand.
Trade with ASEAN reached RMB 3.52 trillion, up 16.6%, maintaining ASEAN as China’s top trading partner. Imports and exports with the EU totaled RMB 2.53 trillion, up 10.3%.
Meanwhile, trade with Belt and Road partner economies surged 13.6% to RMB 10.57 trillion, further increasing their share of China’s overall trade.
Despite a complex external environment, China’s foreign trade maintains strong momentum, with policy support and new quality productive forces driving high-quality development and contributing to global economic stability.
